The Art of Embroidery: 3D Punch Needle Food That Looks Good Enough to Eat

British artist and designer Youmeng Liu has unveiled a series of embroidered food creations that look like the real thing. Using her self-developed 3D punch needle technique, Liu is on a mission to bring “Embroidered Edibles” to life. She uses a bespoke needle to push colorful threads into a base fabric, gradually building up three-dimensional textile “ingredients.” With scissors, she then sculpts each piece to achieve remarkably realistic forms, rich in texture and color contrast.

Among her hyperrealistic subjects are savory and sweet elements—your favorite food and drink, everything from golden pies and waffles to juicy broccoli florets and watermelon slices. She also recreates classic British staples, including Yorkshire puddings, baked beans, and even a full English breakfast. Currently, Liu has completed 19 out of her pledged 301 designs, leaving plenty more to come.
